Plantlore / Your data

Privacy Policy

Plantlore is a plant-care app. This policy explains what we collect, how AI processing works, and how you stay in control.

At a glance

The plain version

  • Your plant profiles, care records and photos are used only to run Plantlore for you.
  • We do not sell your personal data or use your records to train public AI models.
  • A photo sent to identify a plant is used for that answer and is not kept unless you save it as the plant's photo. A health-check photo is kept with the check so you can look back at it.
  • A voice recording is turned into text and is not kept.
  • From Me > Privacy and your data you can have a copy of your data emailed to you, or delete your account.

Information We Collect

We collect what you put into Plantlore and what the app needs in order to work: your account email and sign-in details; your plants (name, botanical name, where each is kept, light, pot size, watering and feeding intervals, notes); your care records, including the sentence you typed or said when a record came from one; the photos you add to a plant or to a health check, and the results of those checks; your reminder settings (the time of day, what to be reminded of, and which hemisphere you garden in); and device and app details such as device type, app version, language, time zone and, if you allow notifications, a push token. Plantlore does not ask for your contacts, calendar, location or health data.

How We Use Your Information

We use your data to run Plantlore: to keep your plants, their care history and their photos; to work out what is due and send the daily reminder you opted into; to identify a plant from a photo, run a health check, and file what you tell the app as care records; to process subscriptions; to prevent abuse; to keep the service reliable; and to answer support requests.

AI Processing

Some features use an AI model. When you identify a plant, the photo is sent to our backend and on to our AI provider (Google Gemini). When you run a health check, the photo, what you wrote about it and that plant's recent care records are sent the same way. When you tell Plantlore what you did, the sentence or the recording, together with the names of your plants and where they are kept, is sent the same way. Under Google's paid-tier API terms, prompts and responses are not used to train or improve Google's models, and we do not use your records to train public AI models. Results are kept in your account so you can look back at them.

AI answers about plants can be wrong. A health check is a suggestion of likely causes, not a diagnosis.

Camera, Photos and Microphone

Plantlore uses the camera or your photo library only when you take or choose a photo, and the microphone only while you are recording something to tell it. It does not record or take photos in the background.

Data Storage & Retention

Your data is stored on cloud infrastructure. Plants, care records, health checks and account records are stored in databases; photos are stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage. Voice recordings are turned into text and are not stored. We keep your data for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account there is a 30-day grace period in which you can restore it by signing back in; after that your data is permanently removed, unless the law requires us to keep something. We use reasonable technical safeguards for storage and transmission.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the service providers needed to run Plantlore (hosting, storage, AI processing, email and notification delivery), for subscription billing through the app store, or when legally required.

Your Controls

In Me > Privacy and your data you can have a copy of your data emailed to you and delete your account. Account deletion enters a 30-day grace period before permanent deletion, unless legal retention requirements apply. You can edit or remove any plant, care record, photo or health check in the app, change or turn off reminders, and sign out at any time.

Children

Plantlore is not intended for children under 13. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy. If changes are significant, we will notify you in the app or by email when appropriate.
